HAT Jobs and Training Initiatives

Some of the key initiatives developed by the HAT include:

  • The Learning Centre (formerly the Once Stop Centre) established to provide a one stop education, training and jobs advice service. This is located within the new retail park and managed by Sutton Coldfield College. E-mail jlynam@sutcol.ac.uk or telephone 0121 730 4600.

  • Castle Vale Business Group relaunched and supported. (Visit their Website).

  • Range of Human Resource Development Programmes developed, including:

    • Nursing Care. This has led to 89% of Staff employed at the Nursing Home being Castle Vale residents.

    • Environmental Programme, leading to NVQ qualifications in landscaping and horticulture

    • Childcare Programme leading to NVQ qualifications

    • Customised Training programmes undertaken, e.g. a very successful programme with Jaguar Cars leading to 27 residents gaining employment to manufacture the x200 car series.

    • Women Returners Programme

    • Construction Training Programme

    • Pre-vocational programmes for young people. This provides job placement opportunities, confidence building training and personal development.

    • Vale Mail - community newspaper set up in April 2000 is issued every 2 months by residents for residents. Vale Mail provides training and support in journalism skills. Contact Suzzanne Ajame-Singh on 0121 749 8366.
